Rublev will join his fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev on Team Europe and it will continue a great season for Rublev in which he ascended to the top of worlds tennis. Rublev is currently ranked 5th in the world and it came after a very strong season that saw him reach his maiden Masters final, winning a couple of trophies as well as winning a gold medal at the Olympics.
The gold medal came in doubles where he paired up with Pavlyuchenkova and while it's not the singles one for Rublev it represented a dream come true. Prior to arriving in Boston Rublev had strong results such as his win over Medvedev in Cincinnati after which he joked:
“There are still so many things to improve but it’s like you pass university, you know, they give you a diploma."
He did get upset by Frances Taifoe in R3 of the US Open but overall it was more than enough to climb to number 5 on the rankings which is a new career-high. Rublev is not done yet as there are a few more events coming but speaking on the Laver Cup he said:
“I’ve heard great things about the Laver Cup and can’t wait to be a part of it. It’s going to be an amazing feeling to compete at TD Garden."
