Angelique Kerber has been given a wildcard entry to the
Chicago Fall Tennis Classic, according to the organizers of the event.
The 33-year old had her 2021 US Open journey cut short when she suffered a shocking loss to eventual runner-up
Leylah Fernandez in the round of 16, but will remain in North America to compete at the Chicago Classic.
Kerber will be joining
Kim Clijsters, as the Belgian was also awarded a wildcard entry to the event. Both ladies have had great success in the United States, with each having lifted the US Open title in the past. However, Clijsters has not played competitive tennis since last year's US Open, as the former World No.1 has been recovering from injury.
The Chicago Fall Tennis Classic will run from September 27-October 3, 2021.
