The female world number 2 Pliskova and world number 4 Halep will be the highest-ranked female tennis players on the court at the Australian Open for day 2

The world number 2 Pliskova kicks off her Australian Open campaign against France's Kristina Mladenovic who can be a tricky opponent especially this early in the tournament. After that match, there will be another star-studded encounter in the Rod Laver Arena. Former world number 1 Maria Sharapova will take on Croatia's Donna Vekic who is the 19th seed this year.

Another former Australian Open winner Angelique Kerber will take on Elisabetta Cocciaretto who got into the main draw through the qualifiers. Another former world number 1 Simona Halep will also be on the court. She is set to face America's, Jennifer Brady.

The home crowd will have several Aussies representing their country this year. On court today will be three of them all thanks to wild card that was given to them. One of them, Rodionova, is set to battle Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine and the home crowd will be hopeful for her to secure a victory.

In total there will be six out of the top 10 ladies on court today as tennis enthusiasts are hopefully rain delay will be avoided unlike on day 1. Report suggests they might be right so there will be a lot of good tennis played today.
