After rain interrupted Day 1 at the Australian Open, the second day is without any problems and is really fortunate for the seeded players as Thiem, Bautista and Fognini all advanced.
Up to
51 men's singles matches have to be played during the Tuesday in Melbourne. If the weather remains good, players will have no problem finishing them all during the second day. Already 17 of those matches were finished as we saw easy victories by Dominic Thiem and Roberto Bautista. But also turn of the match from being 0-2 down by
Fabio Fognini.
Day in Melbourne just started but it already brought a lot of action. Marin Cilic started the day with a 3-0 victory over Corentin Moutet
who was successful in Doha. We also saw up to four 5-set matches. Davidovich Fokina battled past Gombos, Hurkacz outplayed Novak after being 0-2 down. Also, Fabio Fognini was 0-2 down and fought his way back and Benoit Paire was the last player to win 3-2.
However, we've seen many dominant performances as well. Tatsuma Ito defeated Gunneswaran 3-0, Schwartzman eased past Harris and Bautista did not struggle against his countryman Lopez after they've
finished as runner-ups at the 2020 ATP Cup together.
The
inaugural ATP Cup winner, Dusan Lajovic also added 3-0 victory. He was followed by the youngster Jannik Sinner, Milos Raonic, Chrisitan Garin and Tennys Sandgren. After not a very successful beginning of the season when Dominic Thiem lost to Borna Coric and
Hubert Hurkacz, he was now successful against Adrian Mannarino when he defeated him 3-0.
Only 3 players were successful after 4 sets and those were John Millman, Tommy Paul, and 16th seeded, Karen Khachanov. The day in Melbourne has still a lot to offer as Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev are yet to play.
