Day Four of the 2023 China Open on the ATP side will see the Quarter-Finals all set with Carlos Alcaraz in particular aiming to join the line-up in a familiar tie. Our preview looks through the schedule for Sunday in Beijing.

As well as Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud will aim to live up to their top billing with four players looking to upset the apple cart and book a spot in the latter stages.

Alcaraz-Musetti stand out tie

Third up technically on the schedule with WTA action fully beginning on Day Two of the accompanying tournament, Carlos Alcaraz follows Marketa Vondrousova and Aryna Sabalenka onto court and faces Lorenzo Musetti in the stand-out clash.

Two players who came up and were touted at the same time with Musetti older by a year but part of the same crop that turned pro. They have faced off technically three times including Futures/Challengers. But in the pros, it is 1-1 with Alcaraz winning the last contest back at the 2023 French Open 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Musetti won last year at the Hamburg European Open in the final which was won by Alexander Zverev this year. Then it is the turn of Holger Rune.

After snapping a losing streak all the way back to Wimbledon, he faces Grigor Dimitrov looking for two wins in a row. The third seed defeated Dimitrov en route to the Quarter-Finals in that last good run before his illness and injury and he will hope it will kick start him again.

On the second court, it is two more ties as Casper Ruud will face off against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, while Jannik Sinner takes on Yoshihito Nishioka. Both will take place at similar times to the tandem matches on the main court.

Sinner in particular will look to shake off a potential injury which he suffered in his win over Dan Evans which was mocked by the Brit. While Ruud after defeating Jan Lennard Struff will look to do what Holger Rune is and arrest a poor slide which has been in place since reaching the Roland Garros final.

As of time of writing, Alexander Zverev is still playing in his Last 16 clash which means one thing that those on the slate on Sunday could be in for a long day!
