Day Four of the ATP Rolex Shanghai Masters will get underway on Saturday, October 7. Here is our preview of the ATP 1000 tournament, with Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner among those set to start their campaigns.
First up on Stadium Court will be World No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, who will take on qualifier Rinky Hijikata. The fourth seed currently holds a 1-0 lead over the Australian in their head-to-head, having defeated Hijikata in straight sets at this year's Australian Open, where Tsitsipas went on to reach the final.
Next, second seed Daniil Medvedev will kick off his run at the tournament against Cristian Garin. The World No. 3 made it to the final of the China Open in Beijing this week, showing that he is on good form. Medvedev leads their head-to-head 2-1, but their most recent meeting was over two years ago at the 2021 French Open. Garin defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets to make the Round of 64.

Alcaraz to face Barrere while Sinner takes on Giron

Later in the day on Stadium Court, top seed Alcaraz will play against World No. 73 Gregoire Barrere for the first time. The Spaniard has stated that his aim is to win this tournament after a shock defeat in the semi-final of the China Open.
This comes as he works toward usurping Novak Djokovic - who is absent from this event - to end the year as World No. 1. Barrere defeated Nuno Borges 6-2, 6-2, to set up the clash.
After this, seventh seed Taylor Fritz will take on Yosuke Watanuki, who is currently ranked No. 73 in the ATP Ranking. The Japanese player set up the clash after he emerged victorious from a three-set battle with home player Juncheng Shang in the first round. Fritz skipped the China Open, making this his first tournament since the Laver Cup at the end of September.
Over on Show Court 3, sixth seed Jannik Sinner will start his campaign against Marcos Giron. The Italian will be looking to carry over the momentum from his victory at the China Open in order to help him achieve a deep run here. He has never faced the World No. 80 before, the latter of whom ousted Daniel Elahi Galán with a straight-sets win in the previous round.
Following this, fifth seed Andrey Rublev will face World No. 76 Quentin Halys. The Russian will be aiming for a better run here after exiting the China Open in the second round. He has never faced Halys before, who defeated Aslan Karatsev in three sets to make the second round.
