Cordoba Open is set to begin in less than a week
where 28 players from different parts of the world will be competing to secure
an ATP 250 title.
The competition will be played from 5-11 February in Cordoba,
Argentina. The tournament will give an opportunity to players to strengthen
their position in the ATP ranking.
The winner of the competition will receive 250 points which
will be gold for any player participating. The runner-up, on the other hand,
will receive 165 points.
In terms of the prize money, there has been a significant
decrease in the prize money compared to the last year which will be 27% less
than last year.
The winner will receive $85,535 which will be roughly
$12,000 less than what the winner earned last year. Similarly, the runner-up
will receive nearly $50,000 whereas the semifinalist will earn $29,335 each.
The quarterfinalists will receive $16,995 each.
Players who will be knocked out from the first and the
second rounds will earn $6,030 and $9,870 each. Last year, the competition was
won by local player Sebastian Baez who defeated his fellow countryman Federico
Coria with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Three of the last five times the
competition was won by a local player.
