Although her
Roland Garros title quest fell short at the quarterfinal stage, American tennis star
Madison Keys appears ready to make the transition to grass courts.
The reigning Australian Open champion looked impressive en route to the final eight in Paris. However, she was eliminated by compatriot
Coco Gauff, who scored a 6-7(6) 6-4 6-1 victory to advance to the semifinals.
Playing on grass feels natural, says Keys
Despite her disappointing French Open loss, the 30-year old appears to have put it behind her as she readies for the upcoming grass court season. With the
Wimbledon Championships being the biggest prize on that surface, Keys spoke about her chances of doing well as she makes the quick transition from clay to garss.
"I think obviously it is a surface that rewards people who have bigger serves and hit harder," explained Keys. "I think from the start I always was just; it just kind of naturally I was getting free points, and I felt good on it.
"I think I have always felt fairly comfortable moving on it. I think some people, having to take bigger steps on the grass, you actually have to really step, I think sometimes that's the hardest thing to get used to.
"I just kind of always felt it was a pretty easy transition, so I think those thigs just got coupled together. It was just I hit on it for the first time and felt like I was always going to enjoy the surface."
Keys will kick off her grass court campaign at the 2025
Queen's Club Championships, which is slated to begin on June 9, 2025.
