The ATP 250 event, the Chengdu Open, will see an increment in the prize money this year. The competition will be played from 18-24 September in the capital of China’s province of Sichuan, where some top players from all over the world will be participating to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
This year, the competition's prize money will increase again by 1.64% to $1,171,655 from $1,152,805. This was a far lesser increment than last year when the overall prize money increased by 5.13% from $1,096,575 to $1,152,805.
According to the overall proportion of the competition’s prize money, every category will see an increment of roughly 1.6% of the prize money. The winner will get $178,195, whereas the runner-up will earn $103,950. The doubles category event will see another increment as well, where the winners will receive $61,920, whereas the runner-up will receive $33,130.
Last year, the competition was won by current world number two Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who defeated Russia’s Roman Safiullin in the final with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-3. It is not confirmed whether the German tennis star will play in the upcoming edition of the competition. Last year’s tournament was the first one to be organised after a gap of more than three years. Before that, the last edition of the tournament was way back in 2019, when Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta ended up lifting the title after beating Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the final with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 7-6..
This year, the most notable players who have already committed their availability for the competition will be Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, France’s Gael Monfils and Bublik. The competition in Chengdu will be one of the two ATP 250 events to be played in China during the same time. The other one will be the Hangzhou Open.
