The prize money for the inaugural edition of the Hangzhou
Open has been announced. The competition will be held from September 18 to 24
in Hangzhou, and some of the top players in men’s tennis will showcase their talent to secure the ultimate prize.
As per the latest development, the prize money for the competition
has been announced. The winner will earn $152,240, and the runner-up will earn $88,795. The semifinals will earn $52,195 each, and the quarterfinalists will earn just over $30,000. Players who participate in the opening round will earn $10,730.

It will be one of the two competitions to be held in China at the same time in September. The other competition that will be organised at the same time in China will be the Chengdu Open. Two more ATP competitions will be organized in China in late September and early October as well. The ATP 500 event, the China Open, will begin on September 26, whereas the ATP 1000 event, the Shanghai Masters, will begin on October 02.
Some high-profile players will also feature in the first-ever edition of the competition. The most high-profile names would be Russia’s Andrey Rublev, Denmark’s Holger Rune, China’s Zhang Zhizhen, America’s Sebastian Korda and Italy’s Matteo Berrettini.
Rublev is coming into the event on the back of a rather disappointing
US Open, where he was knocked out of the competition after losing in the fourth
round to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-3,
7-6, 1-6, 3-6, 6-3. Rune had a horrible outing in New York as he lost in the first
round to America’s Brandon Nakashima in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2,
6-4. Zhizhen’s journey in the US Open was cut short as he was forced to retire
from the first-round encounter against Britain’s Jack Draper. America’s Korda
lost in the second-round at the Flashing Meadows to the Czech Republic’s Tomas Machac
with a score of 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. Berrettini also lost in the round of 64 in the US
Open to America’s Taylor Fritz in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-1.

mandoist16-09-2024 - No offence, Mr. Lloyd, but where have you been the past two years?? How long have you been a tennis fan? This 'article' may be informative for newbies or fair-weather tennis observers but the majority of fans know the root of the multiple issues within WTA. The #1 issue being the subject of health & well-being which has been (or has attempted to be) addressed with the WTA Elitist council members last season. WTA was extremely dismissive of players' concerns and opposed to such a meeting. Eventually giving-in due to publicity and allowed selective players only -- no rep's, no medical personnel, and no team members. The meeting was a farce as WTA soon after that released an even more hectic schedule... with mandatory tourneys! Guess they weren't taking notes?? BTW: There is a lot missing from this piece concerning "withdrawals". No writer has yet taken the jump to get behind the scenes and dig at the problems -- obvious organizational problems. IMO, the top two issues are WTA's lack of proper attention to health & well-being of its Money-Makers; and Financial Greed. Tip to Mr. Lloyd: there is no "snubbing" when these players withdraw. These women have to take such measures as withdrawing from a tourney, and occasional time-off from the circuit, to protect themselves -- because WTA refuses to take any measures at all (although not allowing matches until sunrise is a start). Surely you can do better than point fingers at players. The finger-pointing should be directed entirely at WTA (and ATP). Be a true journalist, Mr. Lloyd, and research them!!mandoist16-09-2024
