Rafael Nadal is a huge favourite to win the
US Open according to Medvedev who lost the Australian Open final to Nadal.
It's not the only grand slam final he lost to Nadal as his first came in 2019 at the US Open where Nadal also proved better. He's not buying into talks that Nadal is not fit enough or doesn't have a very good rhythm now as he knows how well he can play with the flip of a switch:
“He won the last time he played here against me actually. He won two Slams this year. He actually didn't lose in a Grand Slam this year. He retired [at Wimbledon], which is not the same. In my opinion Rafa is big, let's call it like this. I don't want to say favourite, big favourite. He's definitely a big figure in this tournament."
He also admitted that he seems himself among those capable of winning it as well as a couple of other players:
“Then for sure there are many other good guys. I'm happy to see my name sometimes in the odds or something like this because I'm like, ‘that's great’. That means that I play some good tennis. Being amongst the favourites just brings me more motivation to try to do well.”
