Rafael Nadal and Jannik Sinner matched up once more at the Roland Garros and once again it was the Spaniard who emerged victorious.
A solid straight sets victory 7-5 6-4 6-0 for Nadal closed out the ATP schedule for Monday at Roland Garros. For Nadal, it was the 2nd consecutive year that he defeated Sinner at Roland Garros as he did so last year as well. Similar to that match Jannik Sinner served for the first set but exactly like that Nadal broke him in that game. In both instances, Nadal went on to win the opening set.
Neither player played particularly well in the first set as Nadal committed far too many errors but he was still able to pull it out. Sinner had only 3 winners and 25 unforced errors in it and still served for the set. Once he got the first set in the bag, Nadal started playing a lot better. He limited his errors and it showed on the score 6-3.
The final set featured utter domination from Nadal similar to last year. He was able to better it this time as he won the final set with 6-0 compared to last year's 6-1. Sinner kind of ran out of steam while Nadal felt right at home. In the end, it was lack of experience that sealed the fate of the Italian.
The same thing happened to him last year but he played worse overall this year. He hit 3 times fewer winners than Nadal and that is not going to be enough against Nadal on clay. Nadal will face Schwartzman in the French Open quarterfinals.
