Rafael Nadal has capped off his great week in Rome by defeating the world number one Djokovic and lifting his 10th Rome Masters.
The final that all wanted to see happened and we got to see some great tennis today with Rafael Nadal winning the Rome Masters after defeating Novak Djokovic 7-5 1-6 6-3. It was an interesting start to the match as Nadal was a bit sluggish at the start going down 2-0 before pulling it back to 2-2. The player traded games for a while until Nadal played a great point and breaking Novak 6-5.
He served well and closed it out with 7-5. It was a devastating end for Djokovic who played a rather good set but Nadal was more clinical. However, what followed was a sensational comeback by Djokovic who thrashed Nadal in the 2nd set with 6-1. It was a great set by Novak and an unexpected collapse from Rafa.
We went into a 3rd and deciding set where Djokovic was simply overwhelmed. He started to feel the effects of yesterday and Nadal was able to win 12 of 13 points in a row to take a 5-2 lead. The Spaniard was flying on the court looking determined as ever to pounce on the golden opportunity.
He kept up the pressure in the next game getting his first MP but Novak was able to save it and force Nadal to serve for the match. Nadal was able to hold his nerves and end the match 6-3. It was a sensational display from Nadal especially late to win his 10th Rome Master's trophy. Congratulations.
