Rafael Nadal could yet return before Roland Garros as he makes another attempt to return to the tour next week it seems. With the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell taking place between April 15-21, Nadal will seemingly look for his next comeback step there.
Nadal holds the record with 12 titles at the ATP 500 which is a well known stop in the weeks between Monte-Carlo and Madrid. BMW Open Munich is another that takes place in the same week, but it is usually Barcelona Open that features Nadal in years goneby. According to SER, Nadal will travel tomorrow (Wednesday) to Barcelona as he looks again to make an attempt to return to the ATP Tour.
But of course some trepidation will be there with Nadal going as far as Indian Wells last month before withdrawing from the tournament. He was also all set to play at the Monte-Carlo Masters before withdrawing. Other iterations include Qatar Open and Australian Open with Nadal not having it his own way. This has led in turn to a lot of questioning as to whether he will be ready before Roland Garros.
This furthered by the fact that Nadal admitted during the Copa Del Rey that he was unlikely to play the Spanish double header in Barcelona and Madrid leaving Rome as a last shot of a potential comeback. While the rest of his body is seemingly fine, he is still struggle with abdominal and back issues restricting his serve. He also said that this has led to psychological issues with stress that his injury may return if he returns to the court. Whether he will make it to Barcelona is still yet to be decided by the Spaniard, but it seems at the very least that he will try. Some good news for Nadal fans albeit with only a glimmer of hope.
