Rafael Nadal outlasted
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4 4-6 6-3 in a superb display of tennis by both players to improve to 20-0 and secure the final.
It was a highly anticipated tennis match and it delivered much of what was promised. Long rallies, superb winners by both and competitive spirit rivalling the greatest players in the history of the sport. It was a clash that has many ramifications with Nadal still enjoying the best start to a season in his career and Alcaraz showcasing the talent that will make him the best player one day.
The younger Spaniard was on top of Nadal early but eventually, Nadal was able to find holes in his game and exploit them. He was able to overcome the deficit and win the set with 6-4. The 2nd set was a mad one by both players as they played superb tennis on return.
Neither Alcaraz nor Nadal were able to hold their serve with ease and we saw 5 breaks in total. Ultimately it was Alcaraz who was able to come out on top in that set winning it with 6-4. The match lasted well over two hours at that point and we were going to a 3rd. It delivered more great tennis as both dominated on their own serve.
There was a bit of fatigue by both at times but for the most part, both were in control when serving. Towards the end of the set, Nadal started to play a bit better and he patiently waited for a chance. At 4-3, it came and Nadal played a fabulous rally to win the point and game. He closed it out with a sure hold of his own serve for yet another final.
