Casper Ruud will face Holger Rune in a blockbuster semi-final showdown tomorrow at the Mexican Open Acapulco after Ben Shelton was stopped in an utter epic. It was a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 win for the Norwegian who backs up a superb week albeit losing to Jordan Thompson in the Los Cabos final with yet another run. He will return to the top 10 on Monday.
Ruud did not face a break point throughout the whole clash which finished just after 1:30am local time as Shelton was denied who will now head to Indian Wells and Miami. While Ruud stays in the hunt for the title.
It was a tie-break to decide the opener with the Norwegian spurning the only break point chance of the opening set. Shelton faced two set points, but he saved both and won the tie-break to take the first set 9-7. However in facing break points in the second, he was less economical as he was broken in the ninth game of the second set and Ruud sealed the set 6-4.
Ruud nearly got the final set done even more comfortably creating break point chances, but this time around a third was needed to break and he was able to craft the win from there 6-4 to set up an all Scandinavian semi-final. Rune had seen off Dominik Koepfer earlier today claiming it in two tie-breaks.

Casper Ruud, who will comeback to the top 10 next week, survives a fantastic battle against Ben Shelton -- 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-4 to reach the Acapulco semifinals. Casper didn't face a break point! Match finished at 1.30am Ruud vs. Rune tomorrow!
