Reilly Opelka proved the better servebot in the servebot final against
John Isner outlasting the veteran 6-3 7-6(7).
Two players who are not very good on clay faced off in a clay final as Reilly Oeplka and John Isner completed the fantasy of every American tennis fan. An all-American clash between two rather popular players in the States. As expected the match was dominated by short rallies and aces. We saw 18 aces across the board with Opelka ultimately proving better.
Both players opened the match well and there was not much excitement on the court. Opelka was the first player to face some issues but he was able to save the break point. In the very next game, he jumped out to a 40-0 lead on Isner's serve which is rather unheard of. Isner made it a deuce but Opelka was still able to escape with a break.
He finished off the set with 6-3. The 2nd set featured strong play by both and not many chances to break serve across the board early on. Opelka ultimately got himself in trouble quite a few times as he faced 7 break points but he saved all of them. Isner faced only one late in the 2nd set but he too saved it. In the tiebreak, Isner got himself to a set point.
It was a 6-5 in the tiebreak with him on serve but Opelka's prayers were heard as there was no ace. The younger American ultimately won the match with 9-7 in the tiebreak.
