Ons Jabeur played a good and competitive match but just like last year, the Tunisian falls in the final with
Belinda Bencic getting the win 6-1 5-7 6-4.
It happened in a much tougher manner than it could have but ultimately Belinda Bencic won't mind as the Swiss player was able to win the match and the trophy in Charleston. She played well all week long and thoroughly deserved the win in the end. The start of the match was certainly her favour as she jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
The first set ended with 6-1 for Bencic as Jabeur was finding her way. She broke Jabeur in the first game of the 2nd set as well but gave it right back. Then her play dipped with Jabeur jumping on top 4-2. Then Jabeur's play suffered and Bencic pulled it back to 4-4. At 5-5 Jabeur had a major hold to take a 6-5 lead and then she proceeded to win the set with 7-5.
It was a very exciting affair and a very good match with strong play by both. Bencic took the break early 1-0 but Jabeur pulled it back to 1-1. Bencic broke her opponent once more and she went on to make it 3-1. After that, it seemed like the match was over however it wasn't. Jabeur mustered one last comeback making it 3-3 but she simply did not have enough as Bencic broke her once more.
That was the final time she needed to do it as she cruised to a 6-4 finish. A superb match that lasted two hours and 35 minutes with Bencic getting the trophy in the end.
