Ben Shelton has been having a really good year this year and his recent efforts on clay ensured that he will be a seed at his maiden clay grand slam at the 2023 Roland Garros.
Ben Shelton didn't play tennis outside of the US before this year and one of his first events was the Australian. He stunned everybody with a sensational level advancing to the second week at his first grand slam ever. He'll now compete at his second in Paris and he'll be a seed thanks to his efforts this week.
Shelton is ranked inside the top 40 thanks to his efforts with a late push on clay earning him a spot in the main draw as a seeded player. That's a pretty huge deal because it will give him an easier draw and allow him to win a couple of matches. His clay level isn't anything special as he posted a 4-7 record so far but just the willingness to play so many matches earned him enough points.
Getting that Roland Garros experience will be useful for the future and just getting used to playing grand slams. A big one is coming up on grass, one where his serve will be far more dangerous than in Paris.
