Bageling and beating Ruud on clay is a hell of a feat, Arthur Fils.
Arthur Fils reached the best ranking of his career after reaching the semifinals of the Hamburg Open.
Despite being eliminated in the semifinals, the 19-year-old continues to climb in the rankings and advanced 24 spots to sit at world No. 47, entering the top-50 for the first time in his career.
Just two months ago, Fils was outside the top-100, but with a great week at the Lyon Open, he won his first ATP title by defeating Francisco Cerundolo in the final and climbed to world No. 63.
This week, he played at the Hamburg Open, where he reached his maiden ATP 500 semifinal, but fell to the local and eventual champion Alexander Zverev by 6-2, 6-4.
On his way to the semifinals, Fils defeated Daniel Elahi Galán and Dusan Lajovic, and had an incredible match against Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals, defeating him 6-0, 6-4.
Zverev also had positive results during the week, as he moved up three places after winning the Hamburg Open for the first time and securing his 20th title of his career. With the 500 points earned, he climbed to world No. 16 and is on his way to return to the top ranks of the ATP ranking.
German tennis player currently stands tenth in the ATP race to the Finals and doesn’t defend points for the rest of the season, as he only played until the French Open last year, giving him high chances of further ascending if he achieves some good results.
Other players who had significant improvements in the ranking were Alexei Popyrin, champion of the ATP 250 Croatian Open Umag, who climbed 33 positions to reach his best ranking as world No. 57. Also, the finalist Stan Wawrinka climbed 23 places to return to the top-50 for the first time since October 2021.
Aleksander Vukic, the runner-up in the Atlanta Open, where he was defeated by Taylor Fritz, also achieved the best ranking of his career by climbing 20 positions to reach a career-high No. 62.
