Former world number one
Switzerland’s
Roger Federer made a guest appearance at a Mercedes event in Shanghai.
The 42-year-old is currently
spending time off the court after announcing his retirement from the sport last
September after struggling with fitness concerns for a long period of time.
In pictures posted on social media
platform X — previously known as Twitter — Federer made an appearance as a
special guest at a Mercedes event in China’s city of Shanghai wearing a gray
suit.
The Basel-born is often regarded as
one of the greatest players in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open
era, having won 20 Grand Slams.
His most successful competition
was Wimbledon where he lifted the title eight times which is still a record in
the tournament’s history.
Federer was the first men’s player
in the Open era to win more than 15 Grand Slam titles. He was also the first to
win 20 major titles in the men’s singles category
Federer’s first major victory came
in 2003 when he defeated Australia’s Mark Philippoussis in the final of
Wimbledon in straight sets with a score of 7–6(7–5), 6–2, 7–6(7–3).
His last Grand Slam victory was
the Australian Open in 2018 where he defeated Croatia’s Marin Cilic in a
five-set thrilling final with a score of 6–2, 6–7(5–7), 6–3, 3–6, 6–1.
