Roger Federer played his final career match by partnering with his greatest rival
Rafael Nadal losing to
Jack Sock and
Frances Tiafoe 6-4 6-7(2) 9-11.
It was a very emotional match but lacking of emotional events as the consummate professionals, Nadal and Federer took it seriously. It was much more serious than you would have expected from a final match, especially from a semi-exhibition event but it was a good one.
It was a good goodbye from Federer who played decent a times and it certainly looked like he might be still playing. It's unclear how his body truly felt but he looked fine. The first set was quite competitive with both teams playing rather well.
Towards the end of the set, the legends were able to create a few break chances and break their opponents to take the set 6-4 to a mass celebration from the crowd. The second set was much better by the Americans as they took an early break but also gave it back not long after that.
At 5-5, Federer and Nadal saved multiple break points to hold and extend the match which was crucial. Federer even cracked a smile after that game while walking back to the bench. The tiebreak in the second set was dominated by Team World 7-2.
The match tiebreka was a crazy one iwth both teams holding lead and losing them not long after that. In the end, Federer lost the match 9-11.
