Competing for the first time in over 13 months, Roger Federer will face Daniel Evans in the second round in Doha on Wednesday, seeking his first victory since the last year's Australian Open.
Federer and Evans played around 20 practice sets in Dubai in recent days, training together and setting their fourth clash on the Tour, the first since the US Open 2019. Speaking about Roger, Daniel said that he works hard and that his game is high, especially after such a long break and two knee surgeries.
Federer hasn't played since Melbourne last year, struggling with a knee injury and undergoing two surgeries to extend his career and compete for notable titles again.
"Roger has seen a lot of my game the last few weeks, so it was probably more out of boredom that he came to watch my match rather than scouting out what's on the court. Our training sessions were regular ones; two blokes having a practice.
It's obvious to say he works hard. Some days we practiced for three hours, other days an hour and a half, it's been like most tennis players. Roger's game is on a high level," Daniel Evans said.
