Roger Federer is returning to action at this week's ATP 250 Doha event, entering his tournament since the Australian Open 2020, facing Daniel Evans in the second round on Wednesday.
Commentating Federer's return, the six-time Major champion Mats Wilander honored the Swiss and his passion for the game a couple of months before turning 40. The Swede noted that Nadal loves the competition, while Federer loves the entire game, not afraid of making a comeback at this point and damaging his legacy.
"The fact that Roger returns at almost 40 shows the incredible passion that drives him. Rafael Nadal loves the competition, but Federer loves the game. This comeback shows that Roger has guts. He is not afraid of losing 6-1, 6-1 against a rookie and damaging his image. Many would be, while Federer only thinks about solving his problems," Mats Wilander said.
