Andrey Rublev had a breakthrough run in 2020, winning five ATP titles from as many finals and more matches than any other competitor, even world no. 1 Novak Djokovic.
After the season's restart, Andrey advanced into Major quarter-finals in New York and Paris and claimed three ATP 500 crowns to crack the top-10 and secure his first ATP Finals berth. Andrey claimed the eighth ATP title last week in Rotterdam, securing his fourth consecutive ATP 500 trophy and entering the record books alongside
Roger Federer and
Andy Murray.
Rublev's streak could have been shorter, as Stefanos Tsitsipas served for the victory against the Russian in the Hamburg final last September. Staying calm, Andrey overcame the deficit and won the decider 7-5 to his first ATP 500 trophy. At home in St. Petersburg, Rublev prevailed over Ugo Humbert and Denis Shapovalov before toppling Borna Coric in the title clash for his second ATP 500 crown in a row.
Two weeks later, the Russian ousted Dominic Thiem in Vienna and dismissed Lorenzo Sonego in the final for his third ATP 500 shield in a row. Carrying his form at this level to 2021, Andrey secured the fourth consecutive ATP 500 crown and the 20th straight victory in Rotterdam, joining Roger Federer and Andy Murray on exclusive lists.
Andrey became the third player since the start of the ATP 500 rebranded category in 2009 with four consecutive titles at this level, joining Federer and Murray, who did that before him. Rublev is also the third player with 20 successive ATP 500 triumphs after the Swiss and the Briton, hoping to extend it in the rest of the season and earn more achievements.
