French tennis player Alize Lim has praised the presence of Switzerland’s Roger Federer at the Laver Cup. The two-team competition is currently underway in Berlin, Germany where some of the top players in men’s tennis in the singles category are playing to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize for their respective countries.
Federer is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 20 Grand Slam titles. He is also present in Berlin to witness the event and support Team Europe.
French tennis player Lim has been recently quoted in a report in which she praised the presence of the legendary tennis star at the Laver Cup. The 34-year-old was of the opinion that Federer’s presence at the event almost made it a fifth Grand Slam. "What does Roger Federer not do well? He starts this event and it becomes even almost as exciting as a Grand Slam,” she said. “I mean, I’m excited, it’s the fifth Slam now and I love it.”
Lim also spoke about how exciting it has been to watch the two-team competition. She was of the opinion that such matchups where some of the best in the world go up against each other in a team competition is what makes the Laver Cup special.
“I think, now they’re probably all hoping to be selected and it feels like it can be part of history but taking part in that tournament,” she said. “Especially with what happened with Rafa and Roger when he pulled up also. I was almost thinking that Rafa would use the Laver Cup to maybe retire. It’s super exciting to see these matchups. I feel like the interest is growing every year. It’s so cool. And just the fact that Roger is going to show up, I’m so excited. I was hoping that he would play doubles but I don’t think that’s going to happen unfortunately.”
