Andrey Rublev is playing at his first ATP Finals this year and he is very excited about the moment because he always dreamed about it.
The Russian has had a fantastic year where he won a Tour-leading 5 titles this year including a Tour-high of 40 matches. He won titles indoor, outdoors, on clay and hard courts proving his place in London is justified. Speaking about his debut at the Finals he said:
“Of course, I am feeling nervous. It is my first time. You are with all the best players here and of course, you feel nervous. This is a normal thing because we are all humans… This is the moment we are playing for and we are working for.”
And he worked hard for this achievement and showed early in the season that this might be his year. He became the first player since Hrbaty to win back to back titles in the first two weeks of the season. Speaking about all his experiences this year he said:
"I am really grateful for everything that I am [experiencing], for everything that I have been through. I am really grateful for the team that I have [and] for the friends that are around me because they support me a lot. We have the same vision [and] they give me a lot of energy so, in the end, I am where I am today because of them."
He will play Rafael Nadal in his first match and playing a idol of his is always a joy for the Russian who said:
“I am looking forward [to the match]. He is one of the best players in the history of tennis, so I have nothing to lose. I'll go there to enjoy. All the pressure will be on him and in the end, we will see what is going to happen. I will try to do my best and we will see.”
His match against Nadal is set to start at 21:00 CET later today so be sure to check out our live scores page where you can follow the match as it unfolds.
