It was a very close first match in which Canadian Auger-Aliassime secured a spot in the semifinal. He took on Cameron Norrie who put up more than a solid effort. Both players served rather well and both were able to keep the other from too many break points. Auger-Aliassime took a 5-3 lead and had a chance to close out the set but Norrie pulled it back.
Eventually, Auger did find a way and he won the opening set with 7-5. In the 2nd set, it was Norrie who was up early 3-1 and then 4-2 but Auger-Aliassime was able to get back into the match. The players went to a tiebreak and it was the Canadian who pulled through 7-4 to advance to the semifinals.
In the 2nd match, we saw Andrey Rublev take on Marton Fuscovics. They played several times before and Rublev was clearly ahead in that matchup. They even played in Rotterdam once before and Rublev was able to win that match as well. In this one, it was more of the same with Rublev taking an early 2-0 lead and then holding it for the rest of the set 6-4.
In the 2nd set, he also took an early 2-0 lead and held it for the majority of the set. He then closed it out with another break 6-3 for the semifinal. Rublev is the defending champion and he wants to win it again.
