Russia’s
Andrey Rublev and world number four Norway’s Casper
Ruud planned a trip together after the Swedish Open.
The duo clashed in the final of the competition where the current
world number seven came out on top in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-0.
Interestingly, the duo booked the road trip together after
the competition as it was confirmed by the Swedish Open on their official Instagram
account.
Later, Rublev confirmed the development and further
stated that the duo had to take the same flight.
"Yeah, yeah, we fly together, with Casper, and no the
flight was amazing, it was only half an hour so the flight was perfect," he
said. "The only thing, in the beginning was supposed to fly at 12, and
then the guy from the plane, he text us in the morning that there is some, I don't
know, there is no spots or something, and the earliest they can do is around 4
pm."
The result was a perfect one for Rublev who achieved the
kind of result he would’ve liked after an impressive Wimbledon outing where he
lost to then-defending champion Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal with a score
of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
On the other hand, despite the result, Ruud will be pleased
with his performance in the tournament, especially after a horrendous outing
in the third Grand Slam of the year where he was knocked out from the second
round.
