Former Wimbledon doubles champion Nielsen believes his compatriot Holger Rune has a chance to do well this year despite his heavy workload which some questioned.
Holger Rune has a very tight schedule working a lot on his tennis and playing quite a few events. It's not something that is advised to tennis players because sooner or later you get tired and that has adverse effects on you. Stefanos Tsitsipas famously noted that Rune reminds him of himself when he was younger and he was playing too much tennis.
A compatriot of Rune, former Wimbledon doubles champion Nielsen is curious to see whether Rune can keep it up:
“Obviously, it’s been a question mark among many as to whether Holger can handle playing all these tournaments. But his team are really good at assessing how much he can handle and they know 100% how to get the best out of Holger.”
He added:
“He just loves playing tennis, and with all the statistics you see, he just has to keep going. He loves playing matches, that’s what hes good at.”
Nielsen wouldn't change anything in the way he goes on about his season because it seems like it's working:
“I don’t necessarily think that a different tournament schedule would benefit him right now, and I don’t think that his many matches will negatively affect him in the Grand Slam tournaments. I’ve wondered if they could do something differently, but it seems like they’ve got it 100% under control. Of course, I hope that the fact that he has played a lot of matches at a young age will not affect him later on.”
