Denmark’s tennis star
Holger Rune’s mother Aneke has
explained that her son suffered a defeat in the
BMW Munich Open. The
20-year-old suffered a shocking defeat in the semifinal of the competition to Jan-Lennard
Struff with a score of 6-2, 6-0 in just 44 minutes.
Rune’s mother Aneke was recently quoted in a report where
she explained the reason behind her son’s dismal show in the semifinal. "Holger
has been ill all week and has been running on the spare tank,” she said. “It
was empty today. Not much more to say about it. And credit to Struff, of
course. He took advantage of his chances."
Despite the result, Rune will be relatively happy with his
performance in the mega-event as it was his third semifinal appearance in an
ATP contest. Before the contest in Munich, the current world number 12 played
in the last four of the Open Sud De France where he lost to Croatia’s Borna as
he had to retire in the second set because of a fitness concern. After that, he
faced Norway’s Casper Ruud in the semifinal of the Mexican Open with a score of
3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Other than that, Rune also played in the final of the Brisbane
International where he lost to Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets with a score of
7-6, 6-4.
