Casper Ruud and Pedro Sousa will meet in the final at the 2020 Argentina Open in Buenos Aires after the first-seeded Diego Schwartzman withdrew from the tournament.
It could have been an all-Argentinian final at the 2020
Argentina Open. However, Diego Schwartzman withdrew before his semifinal match due to a left leg injury. And Ignacio Londero failed to win his match against
Casper Ruud.
And it was the home player who had a big lead in the first semifinal match. Londero managed to win the first set against Ruud 6-4 and he got 5-3 lead in the second. However, since that moment, Ruud managed to win 23 out of 25 points to win the second set and secure a lead in the third.
The Norwegian also managed to win 10 out of the 11 games that followed after he was 3-5 down in the second and so he managed to win the third set 6-1 to secure the spot in the final.
There, he will meet world no. 145 Pedro Sousa who got through the semifinals due to Schwartzman's withdrawal. After finding out that he will be playing in the final, Sousa said: “It means a lot to me,” Sousa said. “Last year was not as good as I was expecting and I started this year with some problems, but I managed to change those things and started to play well this week. I got the lucky loser spot, took my chance and am enjoying every time I’m playing in this tournament. Hopefully, I can do a good job tomorrow.”
