Sebastian Korda belongs to a family with a history deeply rooted in sports, with father Petr Korda winning the men's singles title at the Australian Open wile mother Regina Rajchrtova was a former professional tennis player from Czechoslovakia.
Furthermore, Sebastian's sisters Nelly and Jessica are both professional golfers, with Nelly winning her first Major golfing title this summer. Using his siblings as motivation, Sebastian hopes to follow in their footsteps by reaching new heights on the ATP Tour.
Korda has had a breakthrough season this year, winning his maiden ATP title in Parma earlier this year. Furthermore, the 21-year old has risen in 74 spots in the ATP rankings to a career high of World No.45.
Regardless of his sudden rise on the tennis circuit, the Florida native has always been supportive of his sisters and recalled his reaction when sister Nelly won her first Major title.
"It was crazy," Korda said. "I was in Washington, DC, at the time with my girlfriend, and right before the rain delay hit, I was, like, Oh, no. It was already midnight and I was playing doubles the next day. But I went to bed for like 30 minutes and woke up just in time to finally watch them restart.
"I always knew she would have it in her, and I know how tough she is in certain situations. I know how she always prevails whenever she has a challenge like that in front of her."
With an impressive fourth round showing at
Wimbledon, Korda is hoping to surpass that result at the
US Open, under the watchful eye of his father. Additionally, Korda revealed that he is being mentored by none other than
Andre Agassi, an eight-time Grand Slam champion.
"He always tells me whenever I play like a big match or something to always enjoy it, and whenever I'm playing a tournament for the first time, to really enjoy it," Korda revealed when asked about Agassi.
