Denis Shapovalov is through to his first Wimbledon quarterfinal after a stunning 6-1 6-3 7-5 win over Roberto Bautista Agut.
It has been a majestic time in London for Denis Shapovalov who is playing some of his best tennis in a while at SW19. The Canadian continued his hot streak by defeating Bautista Agut in straight sets.
Shapovalov came out furious in the match serving well and hitting winners. The Canadian dropped only two 1st service points in the opening set which he won with 6-1. Bautista Agut was overmatched and did not know how to respond.
The Spaniard played well in the 2nd and forced 5 break points in the set but each time Shapovalov remained calm. The Canadian faced more trouble in the set as his 1st serve percentage dropped to 50 % which was not good enough. Still, he was able to overcome that and win the set with 6-3 due to some stellar shot-making.
The final set opened with a mad sequence where the serving player lost his serve in four consecutive games. Shapovalov was glad to escape from that with a tied score and he continued playing well after that.
At 5-5 he finally got his first break point and he used it to take a 6-5 lead before finishing up the match with 7-5.
