German tennis star
Alexander Zverev has praised Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and calls him a ‘legend’ of the sport already. The 21-year-old
is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s
tennis in the singles category, along with Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic.
Zverev is currently in Berlin to take part in the upcoming Laver
Cup. The current world number two will be representing Team Europe where he will
be accompanied by some of the best players in the world. One of them will be
Alcaraz who will also partner the German tennis star in the doubles category clashes
in the event.
Zverev was recently quoted in a report where he heaped
praise on Alcaraz, against whom he lost in the final of the French Open earlier
this year, and called him a ‘legend’ of the sport. The 27-year-old further went on to state that it will be a ‘privilege’ to share the court with the four-time Grand Slam winner, who, according to him, is only going to ‘grow’ from here on.
"Look, we found out last night during our meeting that
we had at dinner, but for me it's a privilege to — don’t listen, because you're
12 years old and I shouldn't say so many nice things — but it's a privilege to
share the court with a legend in our sport already,” he said. “He's only going
to grow from now on. I had the privilege to play doubles with Roger a few
times, which was very, very special here. So now sharing the court with Carlos
is also extremely special for me. We had some tough battles at Grand Slams this
year together, in Australia and at the French Open, so being on the same side
is incredible. I think we're practicing together today. We're probably going to
talk some tactics later on and decide from there moving forward."
