Jannik Sinner overcame several issues in his match against
Andrey Rublev to defeat the Russian 5-7 6-1 6-3 securing the quarterfinal.
THe final match of the day in Monaco delievered a superb tennis clash between Janink Sinner and ANdrey Rublev. The duo played once before on clay and Sinner won that match rather easily. He won this one as well but it was not easy and for a good portion of the match it looked like he would not win it at all. Rublev jumped out to an early lead and generally looked just a little better.
Both played well and both were aggressive. It was just an all-out clash between two very good players playing good tennis. Rublev served for the set at 5-4 but lost his serve to give Sinner a lifeline. A strong game by both ultimately finished with Rublev taking it 6-5 and closing it out with 7-5.
Sinner lost his serve to start the 2nd set but got it right back after a poor game from Rublev who looked out of sync. The Italian took a MTO for a foot issue and upon return completely dominated play both on return and serve. He won 5 games in a row to finish off the 2nd set with 6-1. The final set was well contested by both but Sinner was simply the better player.
He took an early lead 2-1 but lost his serve once more after some careless mistakes. He would break Rublev once more and it proved enough this time. He broke him once more to finish off the match with 6-3.
