Jannik Sinner announced the name of his new coach last week, fellow Italian Simone Vagnozzi, who has made it clear how determined he is to do good work in his new role.

The 20-year-old made waves when he revealed he was splitting with his former long-term coach Riccardo Piatti as he has a reputation for being one of the best trainers on the tour as a result of the work he did with Sinner. However, the world No 10 wanted a fresh face to help lead him to glory in tournaments and his choice was Vagnozzi who accompanied him at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Speaking to Supertennis Vagnozzi explained what their goal is:

"If I didn’t feel ready I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t have accepted this role. The goal is to win matches against the top players and improve the aspects of the game necessary to do so. With Sinner we told ourselves not to think too much about the ranking.”

The Italian has never shied away from admitting his goal of becoming the number one player in the world in the future. He will face competition from fellow rising stars such as Carlos Alcaraz who has the same dream. Sinner was also excited about the change writing:

“Happy to announce I’ll be working with Simone Vagnozzi as my coach moving forward and he will be heading up my team. Currently, we have no plans to add any more team members at this time but we will review the situation as we go, excited to get started on this new chapter, Forza."
