Daniil Medvedev official became the world number one today ending the run of Djokovic, Federer, Nadal and Murray who have reigned supreme for almost two decades.
Daniil Medvedev became the first player outside of the top 4 to become world number one with the last player to do that being Andy Roddick in 2004. Murray, Djokovic, Nadal and Federer have been the number one since then reigning supreme during the most competitive era of men's tennis. As of today, Medvedev is number one and it's well deserved.
The Russian was able to overcome Djokovic thanks to a solid result in Acapulco while the Serbian predictably struggled in his return to Dubai. Rafael Nadal also moved up to number four pushing Tsitsipas to number five. Several other players made noticeable jumps with Pedro Martinez jumping 22 spots to number 50 after his maiden title run in Santiago.
Sebastian Baez played in the final and umped 16 spots to number 62. The biggest mover of the week is Jiri Vesely, the man responsible for defeating Djokovic and allowing Medvedev to take over number one. The Czech player had a superb week in the Gulf jumping 49 spots to number 74. Movers the other way include Goffin who dropped 20 spots to 68 and Popyrin who dropped 24 spots to 90.
