Novak Djokovic is through to another
Roland Garros quarterfinal after defeating
Karen Khachanov in straight sets.
World number 1 Novak Djokovic continued his stellar run this year with another victory is the Roland Garros reaching yet another Grand Slam quarterfinal. The first set was highlighted by good play from both players as Novak did what he usually does with Khachanov holding up well. All of that changed late in the set when Djokovic broke Karen to take a 5-3 lead. It looked like the set was over but Khachanov came back strong with the rebreak to make it 5-4. Unfortunately, Djokovic wasn't to be overmatched so he broke Khachanov once more to win the set 6-4.
The 2nd went largely as many expected the whole match to go. Khachanov played as well as he could but ultimately Novak was better and he broke him early to take a 3-1 lead. Both players won their service games for the rest of the set and Djokovic won it with 6-4.
The final set started off with a break for Djokovic but he didn't hold onto it as Khachanov came out with some fresh energy to brake Novak and even take a 3-2 lead. He almost broke Djokovic to take a 4-2 lead but the Serbian held on. That was warning enough for Djokovic who stepped up his game considerably going forward immediately breaking Khachanov to take a 5-3 lead. He would go on to wrap up the game in the next game with 6-3.
