The
St, Petersburg Open 2020 starts on Monday with five matches scheduled to take place none more interesting than the one between Wawrinka and Evans.
Stan Wawrinka returns to tennis with a match on Monday against
Dan Evans as part of the 5 matches that will open the St. Petersburg Open tomorrow. The first day of the event which will run till the 18th of October will have 5 matches and the first one is between Karatsev and Sandgren. It's an interesting match that should draw the local crowd to see a Russian play.
The next match is a strong duel between Taylor Fritz and Cameron Norrie. Neither of those players enjoyed a strong clay season so return to hard courts should help both get to form even if it's played indoors. The 3rd match is between Bublik and McDonald. Bublik has been playing strong tennis lately on clay so the shift to hard might bother him a bit but he will be looking for a strong showing in St. Petersburg.
The next match will feature another Russian as Donskoy is set to face Gerasimov. It's an interesting match especially since Gerasimov proved the toughest to beat for Nadal at the Roland Garros almost taking a set from him. The final match of the day is the match of the day which is why it will start in the later hours of the afternoon.
Stan Wawrinka will face off against Dan Evans in a strong 1st round matchup between two strong players. Neither played well on clay and for Wawrinka, it was a disappointing stretch which he will try to rectify during the indoor hard courts season.
