Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka may be at the tail end of his distinguished career, but the former World No.3 has chosen to remain quiet regarding his retirement plans.
The three-time Grand Slam champion suffered a second round loss to Alexei Popyrin at the 2024 Olympic Games, after getting past Pavel Kotov in the opening round. Wawrinka won a gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Games alongside compatriot Roger Federer, but has never won back-to-back matches in the singles tournament.

Wawrinka undecided regarding retirement plans

The 39-year old is the oldest man to play in an Olympic singles tournament since the sport returned to the schedule in 1988. Despite his age, Wawrinka believes he can still compete with the best players in the world. However, he did admit the 2024 season could be his last season on tour.
"We’ll see," said Wawrinka when asked about his retirement plans. "So far it’s been a tough year but since then, I do believe that I’ve still played some good tennis.
“Fitness-wise, I’m doing well. So I will go to the (United) States to play some tournaments, and after America I’ll play some more tournaments in Europe, and we’ll see at the end of the year."
