Tim van
Rithjoveen recently announced on Instagram that he underwent surgery on his
right elbow and reminisced about the 2022 grass court season.
Tim van
Rijthoven gave one of the surprises during last year's grass season. With only
one previous ATP tour victory, the Dutchman became the champion at the Libema
Open, a tournament in which he was the local favorite.
He entered
the main draw with a wild card from the organization and defeated Matthew
Ebden,
Taylor Fritz (third seed), Hugo Gaston,
Felix Auger-Aliassime (second
seed), and
Daniil Medvedev (first seed) on his way to the title.
Two weeks
later, he qualified for the main draw at
Wimbledon, where he surprised everyone
by reaching the fourth round, only to be eliminated in four sets by
Novak Djokovic,
who had been on a 17-match winning streak.
In his
Wimbledon journey, he defeated Federico Delbonis,
Reilly Opelka (15th seed),
and
Nikoloz Basilashvili (22nd seed). His highest ranking was world No. 101,
and Van Rijthoven then focused on the Challenger circuit but faced difficulties
in obtaining good results and struggled with injuries, leading him to decide to
undergo surgery.
After a
successful procedure, the 26-year-old tennis player shared the news with his
fans and reminisced about his Wimbledon experience:
“Who would
have thought i’d be standing here, on this court, against one of the all time
greats, @djokernole , 4 weeks ago. What happened the last couple weeks will
stay with me for the rest of my life,”
“I would like to thank my coach,
family, girlfriend and all of you guys for following me on this journey. The
support has been immense!! But the journey is far from over. A couple days rest
and then off to the USA for more tournaments. Starting in Newport.”
Tim van
Rijthoven's last performance was at the ATP 250
Rotterdam Open, where he lost
in the first round to Maxime Cressy in three sets.
