Greece’s tennis star
Stefanos Tsitsipas’s participation in
the
Australian Open 2024 remains a big risk after he was withdrawn from the World
Tennis League.
The 25-year-old did not have a great ending to the 2023 season
after he was withdrawn from the ATP Finals in Turin due to a back injury. Tsitsipas
decided to take part in the event in the doubles category but was eventually
replaced by Lloyd Harris after just one match.
Tsitsipas, in a recent interview admitted in a recent interview
that the injury he suffered during the ATP Finals was a painful one. "The
injury was painful, really painful, because I couldn't finish the last
tournament of the year, he said.
“So it had a big impact on my body. In the days following
the ATP Finals I had difficulty waking up and getting out of bed. In fact, the
pain I felt for a week or two was very severe,”
Tsitsipas had a rather average 2023 season despite starting
it brightly. He played in the final of the Australian Open earlier this year
where he was defeated by the current world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic
in straight sets with a score of 6–3, 7–6(7–4), 7–6(7–5).
