Stefanos Tsitsipas is through to the Mallorca semi-final with a narrow win over American Marcos Giron 7-6(5) 4-6 6-4.
It was a tightly contested affair largely because Marcos Giron continued playing rather strong tennis. Tsitispas himself has been rather good this week in Mallorca as well and he was able to get the win in the end. The Greek started off well getting an early break point but he was unable to hold it until the end.
Giron eventually battled back from 2-4 down to 5-4 saving two break points at 4-4 as well. The opening set went into a tiebreak and it was Tsitsipas who won the crucial point with a superb forehand that Giron was unable to return. The 2nd set was largely similar to the opening one as neither had many issues. Giron was a bit more solid and eventually, it paid off.
He broke the Greek at 4-4 for the 5-4 lead and finished it off with 6-4. It was a set where Tsitsipas did not serve as well as he could and immediately it worked out well for his opponent. The 3rd set was another close one and Giron missed a huge chance in the opening game. He had a couple of break points and they were the only break points he had the entire final set.
Towards the end Tsitsipas found chances of his own and he was able to take it 6-3. A good match from Tsitsipas who keeps progressing on grass.
