A very good matchup between
Stefanos Tsitsipas and
Dominic Thiem at the
Madrid Open saw Tsitsipas win the match 3-6 6-1 7-6(5).
It was a very interesting match between Tsitsipas and Thiem and their first match in a few years. Thiem opened really well taking an early break from Tsitsipas and holding it comfortably for the 6-3 finish. Tsitsipas played aggressively and well but he wasn't able to take back the break and that was the only reason why he lost the set.
The second set saw him raise his level even further and it resulted in a quick 6-1 clapback powered by six winners. Thiem wasn't able to keep up in the rallies and committed too many errors in that one. The final set was a good one though. Both played well though Tsitsipas looked a bit more comfortable.
Thiem had to save break points several times, especially at 5-5 when Tsitsipas had multiple. He held to ensure himself at least a tiebreak and initially, it looked good for him. A 3-1 lead but then a bad miss returned the mini-break to Tsitsipas who was able to add another one a bit later. That proved enough to finish it off 7-5.
