Stefanos Tsitsipas ended his season but while it was a poor year it was also the case off court when it came to an incident that was reported seeing the Greek ace caught up in a speeding drama.
Supposedly Tsitsipas was speeding in his Lotus in Greece at 210km/h but in reality it wasn't the case reportedly and was in fact his father driving his supercar albeit he got caught up in the drama as his name is on the car itself and so his father was driving his vehicle.
But when his father went to hand himself in to avoid his son being the one who got a driving ban and fine, it was seen as too late and the younger Tsitsipas now has to serve a year driving ban. His lawyer though as per SDNA set the record straight though and that his father had immediately presented himself as the person had done it.
But that in the view of the lawyer, this has not stopped 'unjustified insult' when it comes to inaccurate and defamatory reporting and that they ask for this to cease in order to avoid insulting one of Greece's top stars who has 'honored Greece both at home and abroad'.
"Stefanos was not the driver of the vehicle. Although he was the owner, he had given it to his father Apostolos that day and therefore was never caught driving or causing an accident. He was never asked to show his driver's license," said the statement as per SDNA.
As soon as he became aware of the confirmation of the offense and within the time limits provided by law, he took all legal measures to inform the actual driver of the car, so that the violation would be confirmed to the person who had actually committed it.
His father Apostolos immediately presented himself before the competent authorities, in order to receive the penalties provided by law, and accepted the responsibility due to him for his act, while presenting all the documents required by law, proving explicitly, unequivocally, and irrefutably that he was the driver of the vehicle on the indicated date.
The completely legitimate behavior of Stefanos Tsitsipas and his family is indisputable. Therefore, those who have disseminated inaccurate or defamatory information are urged to retract, or at least exercise caution, to avoid unjustified insult to the personality and reputation of a man who has honored Greece both at home and abroad."
