Stefanos Tsitsipas won his 200th tour match against
Laslo Djere and moved on at the Abierto Mexicano in Acapulco 7-6(7) 7-6(4).
It was a very close match as Tasitsipas did not really play too well and Djere had a clear plan of how to attack the Greek. The Serbian does not play too well on hard courts but he put forward an inspired effort today as he was actually the first player to break serve. The Serbian served for the set at 5-4 but lost it and eventually, it was settled in the tiebreak.
Similar to the first set, the tiebreak was a very close one with Tsitsipas converting his 4th set point to take it. The Greek opened the tiebreak with an 0-3 deficit. The 2nd set opened with an early break for Tsitsipas and it seemed like he would cruise towards an easy finish. However at 5-4, when he served for the match, Djere was able to break him and extend the match further.
This time around Tsitsipas was much more composed and he took an early lead in the tiebreak. He did not allow his opponent to battle back and he closed it out with 7-4. A very solid match from Tsitsipas albeit far from clean and he will need to improve if he wants to challenge for the trophy here. Tsitsipas lost in the final against Zverev last year.
