Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Hugo Gaston at the
Open 13 Provence in Marseille to secure the quarterfinal spot.
Tsitsipas is a 2x time Marseille champion and the Greek players enjoys playing on these courts. He showed it once more today against Hugo Gaston taking out the Frenchman in straight sets. The first set was quick enough lasting only 31 minutes due to the fast pace of play. Neither play was interested in long rallies and Tsitsipas served extremely well keeping points short.
Both players were able to break each other at least once but Tsitsipas did it once more to take the first set with 6-3. Other than that one game, the Greek was superb overall. The 2nd set was very competitive as neither player allowed much on serve. Both were comfortable on their own serv and were winning games with ease.
It was settled in the tiebreak with Tsitsipas dropping only one first service point in the whole set while Gaston dropped only 7. Tsitsipas was more comfortable in the tiebreak and handled the pressure better winning it with 7-4. A quarterfinal appearance for the Greek who will be aiming to win his 3rd trophy in Marseille.
