Stef survives 😮💨 @steftsitsipas pushes past John Isner 7-6(5) 5-7 6-3 to book his third consecutive semi-final at #CincyTennis
Stefanos Tsitsipas had to sweat a bit more than usual in his encounter with Isner but the Greek was able to pull away 7-6(5) 5-7 6-3.
Tsitsipas has had a fair share of success against Isner in the past and he was able to defeat him once more. This match was a bit trickier than most for him but in the end, Isner could not keep up the level high enough to win the match.
As shocking as it might sound, the first set of this match that featured John Isner went to a tiebreak. Tsitsipas jumped out to an early lead in that one but at 4-3, some drops of rain forced umpire Lahyani to suspend the match. It lasted about 20 minutes and when they return Isner was able to take a 5-4 lead. He wasn't able to take it though as Tsitsipas won it 7-5.
The 2nd set featured both players dominating on their serve. It's nothing unusual but what was unusual was the fact that Tsitsipas dropped his serve late in the set. Isner faced a 0-30 on his serve but he got it done 7-5. The final set was also decided by a lone break point and it came on the serve of Isner. At 4-3, Tsitsipas broke him and took the 5-3 lead closing it out with 6-3 for a place in the semifinal.
