Last ball of the year. Happy new year! ❤️
Despite having the best season of his career and ending 2023 on a stellar note, Jannik Sinner still has some work to do to catch up to rival Carlos Alcaraz, according to Sinner's coach, Simone Vagnozzi,
The Italian won his maiden Masters title in Toronto last summer, in addition to defeating Alcaraz en route to the title in Beijing. Furthermore, the 22-year old was in red-hot form during the ATP Finals, losing to Novak Djokovic in the final. However, Sinner did get his revenge on the Serbian, defeating him in singles and doubles at the Davis Cup, before leading Italy to a historic title win.

Although Sinner has been a threat at several Masters events and even Grand Slams, the Italian is yet to reach a Major final, something Alcaraz has accomplished on more than one occasion. This slight difference separates Sinner from Alcaraz, as coach Vagnozzi believes his ward still has room for improvement.
"Carlos is two years younger, but he’s already at a good point on many things," said Vagnozzi. "Jannik still has a lot of work to do. So, let’s not take Alcaraz as a point of reference; he has to go on the road. He often reaches the end in tournaments, and, sooner or later, the opportunity arises.
“Sinner does not start off beaten against anyone, but I believe he has a different path from Carlos who, despite being two years younger, is already ahead technically and physically."
Nonetheless, Vagnozzi is of the opinion that Sinner will catch up with the former World No.1, and the Italian coach is full of optimism for the 2024 season.
There is still a lot to do and that is the positive aspect,” he added. “He has important margins and, despite this, he is close to the top-five ranking, he has won eight tournaments, including [an ATP] 1000. This is the aspect that gives us the most comfort.”
